I want to thank you all for your uber response to my last entry. But I suppose I should explain a few things about why I'm so upset at here.

First, if you have not heard there were 6 people who got suspended and 2 who got expelled. They were all seniors and I'm guessing all of you know who they are. It just really frusterates me that they have been here for three years and they all should know the rules and values of this community by now. It really upsets me that they are all seniors too. And when half the senior guys get suspended/expelled, it doesn't put us in a great light. At least out of this, those of us seniors who are still here need to keep being, in the words of Joseph Rajkumar, Shining Stars.

Second, I am really, really angry at the admissions policy here. This year all of the German guys play basketball and we have one 6'5 Scandanvian. And in the Ironwood newspaper it said that Conserve was "recruiting its students for athletics". And we brought that up in our ambassadors meeting and Jim just laughed it off. And to top it off, every day at 5:45 the whole basketball team is practicing and doing a fall leauge. I aprove of preseason training, but this is fucking ridiculous! We are just turning these kids into basketball machines, where do these kids have time for anything else? None of them really care about nature or giving stuff to this community, its all about basketball!

Let me ask a question, we're any of you conservians soley recruited to play a varsity sport? I'm guessing all of you will say no.

There is a certain group of us who still care, who still want to fight for this community to make it what it should be. Needless to say it is shrinking,
But right now I'm promising to fight. I've been to passive.

Right now all of us who are still here should be screaming, kicking, fighting to keep those values alive that we hold in such esteem.

I'm going to fight, Whose with me?

I'm in! I totally agree. I've noticed this school is turning into a basketball school from an environmental school. I didn't come here to play basketball. I cam here to learn how to make ethical decisions for my life and make friends with the earth.

Yeah dudes, same here.

I agree with ya. Try to ensure that the school keeps up with those values that it was founded upon.

Yeah, what?!?!?!????

And keep fighting to change, the one way Conserve does prepare you for the real world is by making you fight for what you believe in.

I just wrote you a comment but I think it didn't get through. But I can just say it again...

I agree with you and your opinion on what happened to the seniors. I think it's a shame. You are the last class that has been at Conserve since it's "birth" and you are supposed to set an example, which those individuals did not do. It's especially stupid because with this being their senior year, this is going to have an effect on their applications for college. But that's the price they will have to pay, right?

To the recruiting...well...let's see it like this: All the German guys we have ever had "happened" to play basketball. I wasn't recruited for varsity sports, but I am sure you can see what got me into Conserve. It's just my opinion, and Jim probably said that we were all recruited for our personalities and characters, am I right? BS. That's what I say. I am sorry if I sound rude, but why pretend?

It's upsetting to see where this is all going. What happened to the environmental and ethical focus? This is CONSERVE SCHOOL. We are supposed to think about nature and our academics. We are supposed to go out there and make an impact in this world. Where is this whole athletic craziness coming from? (Who is the new basketball coach by the way?)

Keep us '04s and '05s posted on this. Wow. This makes me sad.

Warm greetings from the South though. I hope that your senior year is going well besides all this stuff:)

Heee, Pauline, didn't you notice that we got in Conserve because of our amazing athletic talent? Now that I think about it, we were reallz kind of the odd man out. :)

Hey, Pauline is right. I totallz had the feeling that most of the first "original" Germans got recuted because of their athletic talent, except Pauline and I <-- (duh!). It was all Jenny the runner and Jana, Cyril and Robert the basketball players...You are totally right and that really sucks. I don't know about last year's Germans but this year's sound exactly the same. That's really sad and something I don't understand. I mean, Conserve isn't even supposed to be all athletic and stuff.

I'm totally with you on that topic!

In the tumult of my mind right now I am unable to formulate advice and thoughts for those students still at Conserve School with regards to the expulsions and suspensions.

That said I will weigh in on the subject of the German Students from my experience at conserve. First of all the German students from my Senior year were their for so many reasons besides basketball I have to argue against that being a deciding factor in their admission. Cyril played basketball yeah, and he was good, but he also spoke three languages fluently and spent multiple hours daily studying alone in his room, their were few male students my age at conserve who I felt worked as hard or deserved as much the experience the got at Conserve. If that makes any sense. Pauline and Laura definately both had their own Fortes which made them desirable students, but in general doesnt each student at Conserve have something that the school wants? Why do they recruit? So that they will hopefully have a graduate or student who does something incredible for the school and bring good publicity, that they can tell prospective parents about to draw in new students and justify the engorged cost they charge for an education. I am not trying to take any wind out of our sails but I would focus on the right fight.

The right fight is not against actions of the administration, but about their correlation to the mission and destiny of the school. I have two years of distance from that place, but in a way it still weighs heavily on me as I watch a place I still think of as a home to me fall to pieces. Fuck yeah fight for what you believe in, Fuck yeah be angry at basketball practice in the morning, but dont forget that once you practiced soccer then to. Fight for what you believe in, I am here to help. Good luck young grasshopper, may you soon become the masters.

I really hate anyonymous posting, If you really have a problem with what I think then just tell me in person,
but my opinon on Max is what he did for the student body far outdoes his wrong choice, unlike some suspendees...
