<lj:music>American Pie- Don Maclean</lj:music>

What can I say, break has been good to me so far? I'm ready to go back to finish the academics, my year and my life at Conserve. However, I have been extremely lazy this past week...

I'm going to St. John's University next year. (its in Minnesota, not the one in Santa Fe/Annapolis). I'm excited to be a Johnnie. I stayed overnight last night and I had a lot of fun and met lots of really cool people. The place almost reminds me of Conserve.

You know what the best song in the world is? American Pie by Don Maclean.

So here is an email I sent to the greater community tonight...evidently I pissed people off...LOL

Dear members of the Conserve School community,

There was confusion tonight on the issue of the LAB being open after 6:30. It was to my knowledge that it was going to be open, but it seems that the security staff did not know that. It was told to me that the security staff was told to shut down the LAB at 6:30, while I talked to a houseparent who said that it was supposed to be staffed from 6:00-9:50 for study hours and the library. I know that there was a policy last year that the LAB was closed after 6:30, but if that was true this year, the students have never been informed of that.

This small incident goes to show how important it is to COMMUNICATE! There are a lot of people who live and work in this community and we all need to know what is going on, especially the members of the security staff.

To the administration: I would like this issue to be solved right away. And also please remember to tell the members of security what is going on, I was told they don’t get emails. I’m sure they would appreciate being informed of things.

To the rest of the staff: Please remember to follow your schedule, if you are supposed to be on duty somewhere, please be there when you are supposed to.

To the students: If you are confused about something, tell someone about it!

Have a wonderful evening,

Nick Hansen

I want to thank you all for your uber response to my last entry. But I suppose I should explain a few things about why I'm so upset at here.

First, if you have not heard there were 6 people who got suspended and 2 who got expelled. They were all seniors and I'm guessing all of you know who they are. It just really frusterates me that they have been here for three years and they all should know the rules and values of this community by now. It really upsets me that they are all seniors too. And when half the senior guys get suspended/expelled, it doesn't put us in a great light. At least out of this, those of us seniors who are still here need to keep being, in the words of Joseph Rajkumar, Shining Stars.

Second, I am really, really angry at the admissions policy here. This year all of the German guys play basketball and we have one 6'5 Scandanvian. And in the Ironwood newspaper it said that Conserve was "recruiting its students for athletics". And we brought that up in our ambassadors meeting and Jim just laughed it off. And to top it off, every day at 5:45 the whole basketball team is practicing and doing a fall leauge. I aprove of preseason training, but this is fucking ridiculous! We are just turning these kids into basketball machines, where do these kids have time for anything else? None of them really care about nature or giving stuff to this community, its all about basketball!

Let me ask a question, we're any of you conservians soley recruited to play a varsity sport? I'm guessing all of you will say no.

There is a certain group of us who still care, who still want to fight for this community to make it what it should be. Needless to say it is shrinking,
But right now I'm promising to fight. I've been to passive.

Right now all of us who are still here should be screaming, kicking, fighting to keep those values alive that we hold in such esteem.

I'm going to fight, Whose with me?

Its one of those real hot summer nights where I can't sleep because I'm thinking about too much stuff in the future. I'm thinking about how home is completely differnt than school and how much I'd rather be there right now. Its not that I don't like it at home, its just that my problems at school are much easier to deal with...

Its that feeling, Greg knows what I'm talking about.
